About High Raise

Not to be confused with the High Raise of the Far Eastern Fells, this one is the highest ground in the Central Fells at 762 metres. It is among the less dramatic of the district's mountains in form.

What it offers instead is position: it is widely regarded as the most central mountain in Lakeland, and the summit looks out over the surrounding ranges. All three of England's 3,000-foot mountains — Skiddaw, Helvellyn and the Scafells — are clearly in view, while further off lie the Yorkshire Three Peaks some 60 km away and Morecambe Bay at about 40 km.

The recorded summit point is rock 20m SE of trig point. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
