About Ysgafell Wen North Top

Ysgafell Wen North Top lies north of Ysgafell Wen, the highest point of their shared Snowdonia ridge, and like it is a subsidiary summit of Allt-fawr.

The top stands at the lip of Cwm Edno, where the ground drops steeply into the cwm. Small tarns known as Llynnau'r Cwn, the dog lakes, lie about the summit. To the west is Ysgafell Wen Far North Top.

Which hill this one belongs to

Ysgafell Wen North Top is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Allt-fawr (698 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 638 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
