About Y Foel Goch

Y Foel Goch, with Gallt yr Ogof, is a sister peak to Glyder Fach. Llyn Caseg-fraith lies between it and Glyder Fach, a lake much used for photographing Tryfan reflected in the water.

The summit is grassy with a few small rock outcrops and a small cairn. Views are largely closed in by the bulk of Moel Siabod, Tryfan and Glyder Fach. Eastwards the ridge continues to Gallt yr Ogof.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

rocks 50m S at SH 67775 58170 and rock 120m SW at SH 67715 58120 are as high as cairn.

The recorded summit point is cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

Which hill this one belongs to

Y Foel Goch is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Glyder Fawr (1,001 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 742 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
