About Foel Gron

Foel Gron is one of the summits on the Moel Eilio ridge in Eryri, north Wales. Walkers use the ridge as a line from Llanberis through to the top of Snowdon. At 629 m Foel Gron is a Hewitt, Nuttall and Simm; the source material says no more than this.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

grassy knoll 40m WNW at SH 56007 56860 is lower.

The recorded summit point is eastmost grassy knoll near fence corner. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

Which hill this one belongs to

Foel Gron is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Moel Eilio (726 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 598 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
