About Llechog

Llechog is a top of Garnedd Ugain on the Snowdon massif, and it marks the far end of a long crest of cliffs running up from Llanberis to Garnedd Ugain itself. The summit is a rocky point standing proud of that crest, with the ground dropping abruptly to the Nant Peris valley below.

The outlook takes in Glyder Fawr, Y Garn, Elidir Fawr and Crib Goch at close quarters. Clogwyn Station, a stop on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, lies nearby. Note that a second Llechog exists about half a mile south-west of the Snowdon summit, above Cwm Clogwyn, so the name alone can be ambiguous.

Which hill this one belongs to

Llechog is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Snowdon - Yr Wyddfa (1,085 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 692 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
