About Y Garn

Y Garn is a Glyderau summit and the tenth-highest peak in Wales, one of the fifteen Welsh 3000s over 914.4 metres. Elidir Fawr lies along the ridge to the north; to the south-east are the Twll Du and Glyder Fawr.

The two sides of the mountain are quite different. The south-west falls in easy gradients towards the Nant Peris valley, while the north-east is cut by two steep-sided cwms, Cwm Clyd and Cwm Cywion, dropping to Llyn Idwal and Ogwen Cottage. Snow can build up on the western slopes between October and May, and in 2011 three walkers went over a cornice overhanging a ridge here.
