About Ravenglass for Eskdale station
Ravenglass for Eskdale is a stop on the Cumbrian Coast Line between Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness, 29¼ miles north-west of Barrow, serving the village of Ravenglass. The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway runs its own platforms and services alongside the National Rail station, with the two parts separated by the station's car park. The National Rail station is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains, who provide all passenger train services.
The name has been through several changes. Originally plain Ravenglass, it was lengthened to Ravenglass for Eskdale, then renamed back to Ravenglass on 6 May 1974. Under First North Western in the early part of this century it reverted to Ravenglass for Eskdale, until Northern Rail rebranded the signage in 2007 and the suffix was lost once more.
