About Muncaster Fell - Hooker Crag

Hooker Crag is the high point of Muncaster Fell, at 231 metres, and the fell itself is what gives it interest: a long, narrow ridge roughly 6 km from end to end and only about 1.2 km wide, at the far western edge of the Lake District National Park.

The ridge is hemmed by the River Mite to the north and the Esk to the south. It lifts from the coast near Ravenglass to Hooker Crag, then runs north-east, easing down to a final rise at Silver Knott at 174 metres before dropping sharply to Eskdale Green at its far end.

The recorded summit point is outcrop 35m N of trig point. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
