About Irton Pike
Irton Pike reaches 229 metres in the west of the Lake District, near Santon Bridge, and has its own chapter in Wainwright's The Outlying Fells of Lakeland. His anticlockwise circuit begins at Irton Road station on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, close to Eskdale Green.
He was fond of the place out of proportion to its size, calling this tiny top a near-perfect solace for reminiscences of past happy days on the higher fells, and urging readers to climb it while they still could.
