Yoke

About Yoke

Yoke closes off the southern end of the long ridge that reaches down from High Street, making it the first or last summit on that spine depending on the direction of travel. It sits in the far eastern sector of the Lake District National Park, roughly six and a half kilometres east-north-east of Ambleside.

The name is thought to come from the Old English geoc, a relative of the German joch, meaning a mountain ridge — an apt label for a fell defined by the arm of high ground it terminates.
