About Seat Sandal

Seat Sandal stands about four kilometres north of Grasmere, and is seen to good effect from the village. Among the Eastern Fells it tends to be passed over in favour of taller neighbours such as Helvellyn and Fairfield.

The summit reaches 736.8 m, enough for Wainwright, Hewitt, Nuttall and Marilyn status, in the Westmorland and Furness part of the Lake District.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

30m ENE of cairn (Wainwright) at NY 34390 11515 and 40cm higher.

The recorded summit point is rock on knoll by ruined wall. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
