About Raven's Barrow

Raven's Barrow is the modest top above the hamlet and civil parish of Cartmel Fell, in the southern Lake District between Windermere and the Winster valley. The parish is bounded by Windermere parish to the north west, taking in part of the lake shore, with Crook, Crosthwaite and Lyth, Witherslack, Lindale and Newton-in-Cartmel, and Staveley-in-Cartmel around the rest.

Its church, St Anthony's, stands about 11 km north of Cartmel Priory and was raised as a chapel of ease to the priory in roughly 1504. Little has altered since: it retains 17th-century box pews, a rare three-decker pulpit dated 1698, and stained glass possibly brought from the priory.
