About Knott

Knott is the highest ground in the Back o'Skiddaw, the tract of wild and little-visited moorland lying north of Skiddaw and Blencathra. High Pike, Carrock Fell and Great Calva are among the other tops of that region. Its slopes are largely smooth and grassy, broken here and there by deep ravines.

Being a long way from any road, and screened from the rest of the Lake District by its two large neighbours, it sees fewer visitors than almost any other top in the district; approaches are most often made from Mungrisdale or from the north over Great Sca Fell. The name is Cumbric in origin and means simply hill.
