About High Pike (Caldbeck)

High Pike lies 4.5 km south of Caldbeck in the northern Lake District and is the most northerly Lakeland fell to top 2,000 feet, the threshold often used to separate mountains from lesser summits. It is a bulky hill whose northern slopes drop away towards the lower country between Caldbeck and Carlisle.

Like neighbouring Carrock Fell it has been mined extensively, and the range of minerals worked here lies behind the old saying that Caldbeck fells are worth all England else. A second Lake District High Pike sits in Scandale near Ambleside, and the two are easily confused.
