About Brae Fell

Brae Fell rises 12 km north of Keswick and is usually counted among the Caldbeck Fells with High Pike and Carrock Fell, despite having ridge connections to the Uldale Fells.

The name comes from Scots, where brae means a hillside or slope — fitting, since the northern flanks look across the Eden Valley and the Solway Firth towards the Borders. The fell forms part of the Skiddaw Group SSSI, designated for both its ecology and its geology, and reaches 586 m.
