About Dodd Fell Hill

Dodd Fell Hill takes its name from Middle English dodde and Old Norse fjall, together meaning something like the hill with the rounded top, which describes it well. The flat summit is marked by a concrete trig point.

A lower top, Ten End, lies 1.6 km to the north at 580 m. Water leaving the hill to the north-east forms Duerley Beck, which runs down Sleddale to join the River Ure; water going north drains through Snaizeholme, a side dale of Widdale. The Pennine Way follows the high ridge between the summit and Snaizeholme.
