About Yewbarrow

Yewbarrow stands directly north of the head of Wast Water and takes its shape from an upturned boat hull, or a barrow — which, along with the yew trees that once grew here, gives the fell its name. It appears on the left-hand side of the much-photographed view of Great Gable across the lake.

Half a mile north of the 628-metre main top, Stirrup Crag forms a second summit at 616 metres; both the Hewitt and Nuttall lists treat this Yewbarrow North Top as a separate hill.
