Wild Boar Fell rises on the eastern edge of Cumbria within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, on the boundary between the civil parishes of Mallerstang and Ravenstonedale. Whether it counts as the fourth or fifth highest fell in the Dales depends on whether nearby High Seat, a metre higher, is included.

Swarth Fell, a ridge about 1.6 km south, is the nearest high ground; High Seat and Hugh Seat stand across the dale to the east.
