About Waun Rydd
Waun Rydd is a broad boggy plateau east of Pen y Fan, in the southern Powys part of Bannau Brycheiniog. Rather than a conventional summit cone, it presents a tableland edged by sharp rims on several sides.
Craig Pwllfa forms the north-eastern edge above Cwm Banw, while Craig y Fan looks east across Cwm Tarthwynni. On the southern side the rim called Cwar y Gigfran, meaning 'quarry of the crow', tops an extensive landslip running down to the stream at Blaen y Glyn. Several ridges run out north and east from the plateau; one of them, Gist Wen, heads north-north-east to the subsidiary top of Bryn at 561 m.
