Murton Fell rises above the village of Murton in the North Pennines, east of the dramatic valley of High Cup Nick.

It lies on the central watershed of England: water off its south-western side runs to the River Eden and the Solway Firth, while the north-eastern side drains to the Tees and eventually the North Sea.
