About Mickle Fell

Mickle Fell rises in the Pennines about 16 km south of Cross Fell, set slightly off the range's main watershed. Among Marilyns within the North Pennines AONB, only Cross Fell exceeds it.

Its status as a county top is layered. It is the highest ground in the historic county of Yorkshire, and it forms part of southern Teesdale, transferred from the North Riding to County Durham by the Local Government Act 1972 with effect from 1974 — which also makes it the top of the present Durham unitary area. Historic County Durham's high point is Burnhope Seat, between Teesdale and Weardale.
