About Mullwharchar

Set in the Dungeon Hills, a sub-range of the Galloway Hills within Scotland's Southern Uplands, Mullwharchar stands north of Loch Enoch. Merrick lies to the south-west, Kirriereoch Hill to the west and Corserine to the east.

Three cliffs break the hillsides here: The Slock, The Tauchers and The Organ Pipes, which see occasional climbing. The top itself is fairly level, strewn with glacial erratics.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

rock 25m SW at NX 45408 86611 is 0.1m lower; cairn 35m W at NX 45383 86628 is 0.4m lower; summit boulder is 6m E of obvious pointed boulder.

The recorded summit point is rock 35m E of cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
