This entry covers the boundary point on Kirriereoch Hill, in the Range of the Awful Hand within the Galloway Hills of the Southern Uplands. A boundary wall near the summit marks the highest ground in South Ayrshire and in Ayrshire as a whole; the hill sits on the line between the old counties of Ayrshire and Kirkcudbrightshire, now South Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

The hill's own listing history has shifted. Dropped from the Corbett and Marilyn lists in 1984 over prominence, it returned as a Marilyn in August 2015 on a surveyed figure of 150.2 m, below the 152.4 m needed for Corbett status. Its name comes from Kirriereoch farm to the west; an earlier record of 1654 gives 'Meal Tuaichtan', from the Gaelic Meall an t-Suachdain, preserved in the name of Loch Twachtan by the summit.
