About Moel Hebog

Moel Hebog — 'bare hill of the hawk' in Welsh — dominates the view west from Beddgelert, rising to 783 metres. It is the chief summit of a range running through the north-western corner of Eryri that also takes in the Nantlle Ridge and Mynydd Mawr.

Geologically the mountain is made up of a complex sequence of Cambrian and Ordovician rocks, including volcanic formations belonging to the Snowdon Volcanic Group. Its main secondary tops are Moel yr Ogof at 655 m, which holds a cave traditionally linked with Owain Glyndŵr, and Moel Lefn at 638 m. A Marilyn, Hewitt and Nuttall, it draws walkers for wide views taking in Snowdon.
