About Long Side
Long Side sits on Skiddaw's north-western ridge, six kilometres north-west of Keswick, with the middle part of that ridge known as Longside Edge. Strictly the summit itself is nameless: the name Long Side belongs, on maps, to the south-western slope below the top.
At 734 m it is a Wainwright, Hewitt and Nuttall. Many walkers cross it en route to Skiddaw, and guidebook writers rate the north-west ridge line as the finest and quietest way onto that 910 m mountain.
