About Knott Rigg
Knott Rigg sits at the head of the Newlands Valley, some 8.5 kilometres south-west of Keswick, reaching a modest 556 metres. Its name comes from Old English and means hill on a knobbly ridge.
The height is unremarkable, but the fell appears on several hill lists including the Birketts and TuMPs, and Alfred Wainwright gave it a chapter of its own in his Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells.
