About Kinder Scout

Kinder Scout is a peat moorland plateau rather than a peaked summit, spread across the Dark Peak of the Derbyshire Peak District and designated a National Nature Reserve.

At 636 m, part of the moor is the highest ground in the Peak District, in Derbyshire and in the East Midlands. It is a Hewitt, Nuttall, Marilyn and Simm, and appears on the Trail 100 list.

The recorded summit point is grassy prominence on peat mound. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
