About Crinkle Crags - Long Top

Long Top, also called the Second Crinkle, is the highest point of Crinkle Crags, a fell whose summit ridge is not a single top but a run of five rises and dips. Those undulations are what give the fell its name and make its profile easy to pick out from the valley floor below; the Old English cringol, meaning twisted or wrinkled, lies behind the word.

Crinkle Crags belongs to two great rings of mountains at once, one enclosing Great Langdale and the other Upper Eskdale, so Long Top is reached as part of a ridge rather than as an isolated summit.
