About Crinkle Crags South Top

Crinkle Crags South Top, also called First Crinkle, is one of the five rises along the summit ridge that gives Crinkle Crags its name — a sequence of crinkles and dips that reads very clearly from the valley floor. The Old English cringol means twisted or wrinkled.

The fell forms part of two major rings of mountains, around Great Langdale and around Upper Eskdale. This particular top, at 834 m, is listed as a Hewitt, Nuttall, Simm, Birkett and Synge.
