Broad Crag

About Broad Crag

Broad Crag is a link in the Scafell chain, sitting roughly 400 metres north-east of Scafell Pike, with Ill Crag to the south-east and Great End closing the chain about 1.5 kilometres north. At 935 metres it is the fifth-highest summit in England.

The fell was given to the National Trust in 1923 by the Fell and Rock Climbing Club. Walkers most often cross it while heading for Scafell Pike, whether from Esk Hause or along from Crinkle Crags and Bowfell.

Broad Crag is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Scafell Pike (978 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 878 m.
