About Beinn Narnain
Beinn Narnain, near Arrochar, takes its name from 'hill of notches', a description of the broken profile it presents. It is a Munro of 927 metres and one of the group informally called the Arrochar Alps.
Ascents usually begin at Succoth at the head of Loch Long. The most-used line goes straight up the hillside beside a row of concrete blocks - originally supports for a cable railway built during the water diversions of the Loch Sloy hydro-electric scheme. Where the path meets a level track, the continuation is up exposed rock directly opposite, which looks more like a stream bed than a path. Beyond the last blocks the route follows the craggy south ridge, with several mild scrambling sections along the way.
