The East Top is a subsidiary summit of Y Lliwedd, the mountain linked to Snowdon whose eastern face drops in steep cliffs above Llyn Llydaw and Glaslyn. At about 893 m it sits just below the main top's 898 m and is listed as a Nuttall in its own right.

Walkers on the Snowdon Horseshoe pass over Y Lliwedd, and the peak is the most prominent one seen by those approaching Snowdon along the Miners' and Pyg tracks. Its north face has a long climbing record, explored from the late 19th century and described in the 1909 guide The Climbs on Lliwedd.
