About Pumlumon Fach

Pumlumon Fach is a top of Pen Pumlumon Fawr on the Plynlimon massif, in the Cambrian Mountains of Ceredigion. It sits on a small ridge running north-west from the parent summit.

A small cairn marks the top, which overlooks Nant-y-moch Reservoir to the north and Llyn Llygad Rheidiol to the east. Also in view are Drosgol (550 m), Banc Llechwedd-mawr (560 m) and Cwm Hyddgen, once a hiding place for Owain Glyndwr and his army.

Which hill this one belongs to

Pumlumon Fach is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Pumlumon Fawr (752 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 645 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
