About Moel y Cerrig Duon

Moel y Cerrig Duon is a subsidiary summit of Esgeiriau Gwynion, and with Llechwedd Du it caps the eastern end of a long peat bog plateau. The cone rises abruptly out of that bog; the top itself is grassy, with a small cairn and a stake.

Foel y Geifr lies to the north-east, Cyrniau Nod to the east, and Llechwedd Du, Esgeiriau Gwynion and Aran Fawddwy to the west. Its south-western top, Foel y Groes at 582 m, is otherwise unremarkable but divides the Dee, Severn and Dyfi catchments.

South of here the Aran range continues into a broad tract of high moorland west of Lake Vyrnwy, crowned by Mynydd Coch.
