About Knock Fell

Knock Fell sits on the central watershed of England. Water off its western slopes runs by Swindale Beck and Milburn Beck into the River Eden and out to the Solway Firth, while the eastern side drains via Maize Beck and Trout Beck to the Tees and the North Sea.

A cairn known as Knock Old Man stands a short way below the top to the south-west, with a smaller cairn on the summit itself. The summit lies in the parish of Long Marton, with the Dufton boundary only metres to the south. The Pennine Way crosses here on the stretch from Dufton to Cross Fell, a section with no accommodation or services until Garrigill and one that has been described as the trail's toughest day.
