High Stile

About High Stile

High Stile is the highest fell in the range running north-west from Great Gable towards Loweswater, and the eleventh-highest English Marilyn at 807 m with a relative height of 362 m.

With Red Pike and High Crag it makes up a trio of fells above the lake and village of Buttermere. The Buttermere side holds high crags, wild combes and the small sheet of Bleaberry Tarn. The three fells are usually taken together as a traverse.

The recorded summit point is outcrop 13m ENE of large cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
