About Garnedd Uchaf
Known as Carnedd Uchaf until 2009, Carnedd Gwenllian is a modest summit on the Carneddau ridge between Foel Fras and Foel Grach. Because it lifts only a little above the ridge line it is not always counted among the Welsh 3000s, though it does qualify as a Hewitt.
Its slopes are grassy but steep, as with the rest of the northern Carneddau, and they collect deep snow-drifts in winter blizzards; snow beds have lasted into June here. The mean annual temperature is around 4-5 degrees Celsius. On clear days the view reaches Ireland and the Isle of Man to the north, and the Berwyn range to the south.
