About Gallt y Daren

Gallt y Daren is a twin-peaked top of Moel Llyfnant, lying west of it in the Arenig range in the southern part of Eryri. The summit sits on a rocky outcrop with a wide outlook over the Rhinogs and northwards into Snowdonia.

The peak is often called Foel Boeth, but the Nuttall list counts both tops separately: the higher, at 619 m, takes the name Gallt y Daren, and the lower one at 616 m is Foel Boeth.

Gallt y Daren is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Moel Llyfnant (751 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 506 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
