About Foel Boeth

Foel Boeth is one of a pair of twin tops in the Arenig range, in the southern part of Eryri, with Moel Llyfnant as its parent peak. The Nuttall list includes both tops, naming the higher one Gallt y Daren and the lower Foel Boeth, although the name Foel Boeth is often applied to the pair as a whole.

The summit at 615 m is grassy and marked by a small pile of stones.

Finding the summit

Surveyor's note

7m NE of fence; knoll 50m SW is 0.46m lower.

The recorded summit point is small rock 8m SW of pile of stones. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

Which hill this one belongs to

Foel Boeth is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Moel Llyfnant (751 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 599 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
