About Diffwys

Diffwys forms part of the Rhinogydd near Barmouth. Technically it is a subsidiary summit of Y Llethr, falling 2 m short of Marilyn status and so counted a sub-Marilyn. A trig point stands on the top.

An exposure of the Caerdion Syncline is visible on the north side. Y Llethr and Crib-y-rhiw lie north, Y Garn east, Cadair Idris south, and the hill's own Diffwys West Top to the west.

Diffwys is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Y Llethr (756 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 603 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
