About Clints Crags (Wainwright summit)

Clints Crags is a small fell near Blindcrake in the northern Lake District, reaching 245 metres. Its summit is a broad spread of limestone outcrop and pavement, designated an SSSI, and an old limestone quarry close by is separately protected as an SSSI, with a rare newt breeding in its flooded workings.

Wainwright gave the hill a chapter in The Outlying Fells of Lakeland, describing a circular walk from Blindcrake, but complained in 1974 that barbed wire and other obstructions on the public footpaths left the route fit only for gymnasts. Those obstacles have since gone and the path to the top is clear. The crags themselves are far steeper on the north side, above the Isel valley, and no footpath climbs them from the valley floor.
