About Binnein Mor

Binnein Mòr is the highest peak of the Mamores, the range filling the ground between Glen Nevis and Loch Leven, and sits about five kilometres north-north-east of Kinlochleven. Its pyramidal summit stands north of the main Mamores ridge, above the uninhabited upper reaches of Glen Nevis.

A short narrow ridge runs south to rejoin the main ridge at an unnamed 1,062 m top, listed in Munro's Tables as Binnein Mòr south top. A second subsidiary summit, Sgòr Eilde Beag at 956 m, lies about a kilometre south-east and closes the eastern end of the main ridge. Despite its height, Binnein Mòr sees fewer visitors than many Mamores, partly because of its remoteness; it is most often approached from Kinlochleven, frequently along with Na Gruagaichean to the west.

The Binnein Mor group

4 other listed summits sit in the same prominence group, with Binnein Mor as the independent hill at its head.

Na Gruagaichean 1,054 m 97 m

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
