About Whinlatter Top
Whinlatter Top is a summit of Whinlatter, a small fell in the north-west of the English Lake District just north of the Whinlatter Pass. The fell forms part of a horseshoe of high ground around the valley of Aiken Beck and is easily climbed from the top of the pass through the Forestry England plantations, with the Whinlatter Visitor Centre, a popular tourist attraction, on its southern side.
The fell's name combines Old Norse and Gaelic elements — the Old Norse 'hvin', meaning gorse or furze, and the Gaelic 'lettir', a slope — so that it translates as the gorse- or furze-covered slope.

higher than hill 3563 and surrounding knolls.
The recorded summit point is cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

Which hill this one belongs to
Whinlatter Top is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Lord's Seat (552 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 467 m.
Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
