About Slieve Binnian North Tor

This is the northern of the two rocky tors that stand at either end of Slieve Binnian's broad, flat summit ridge, in the Mourne Mountains of County Down. Between the two tors run the Back Castles, substantial granite towers. Slieve Binnian itself reaches 747 m and is the third highest mountain in Northern Ireland, about 9 km north of Kilkeel.

The mountain lies east of the Silent Valley Reservoir and west of the Annalong Valley, with Wee Binnian (460 m, from Irish Broinn Bhinneáin, breast of Binneán) to the south-west. The Mourne Wall crosses it. The ground falls in the townland of Brackenagh East Upper, the civil parish of Kilkeel and the historic barony of Mourne.
