About Rogan's Seat
Rogan's Seat is a remote swell of moorland above Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales, flanked by Swinner Gill and Gunnerside Gill and lying near East Stonesdale. It is a high expanse rather than a shapely peak, sharing joint 17th place among North Yorkshire fells with Great Knoutberry Hill.
Access has been a point of contention: no direct right of way to the summit has been published by the grouse-moor landowners, though they have been tolerant of walkers. A bridleway track north from Gunnerside Gill provides the usual line, and the waterfalls in the lower gill lie about 2 km away. The view is limited by the breadth of the moor, but Great Shunner Fell, Ingleborough and Whernside show to the west.

The Rogan's Seat group
One other listed summit sits in the same prominence group, with Rogan's Seat as the independent hill at its head.
| Summit | Height | Drop |
|---|---|---|
| Water Crag | 668 m | 26 m |
Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
