About Rannerdale Knotts
Rannerdale Knotts rises straight out of the Buttermere valley in the western Lake District, a modest summit hemmed in by considerably bigger neighbours. Grasmoor and Whiteless Pike stand over it on one side, while across Crummock Water lie Mellbreak and the High Stile ridge.
Modern legend attaches a battle to the place: native Cumbrians and Norsemen are said to have fought invading Normans here in the late 11th or early 12th century. The fell is listed as a Wainwright, Birkett, Synge and Fellranger.
