Killhope Law stands on the Durham–Northumberland boundary in the North Pennines, one of the higher points of that upland belt at 673 m and listed as a Hewitt and a Nuttall.

It shares its name with Killhope, a small settlement at the very top of Weardale in the civil parish of Stanhope. Killhope Pass, the road from there to Nenthead in Cumbria, tops out at 627 m and is the highest paved public A road in the country, and the settlement holds the North of England Lead Mining Museum at the old Park Head Mine.
