About Cefn Cul

Cefn Cul is a hill in the Fforest Fawr sector of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park in Powys, southern Wales, taking the form of a broad ridge aligned north-north-east to south-south-west. The upper valley of the River Tawe, carrying the old Trecastle road, bounds it to the west, while to the east the A4067 crosses the pass of Bwlch Bryn-rhudd on its way south from the Crai valley to that of the Tawe.

Surveyor's note

rock 5m SW of cairn on NE summit 130m away at SN 86185 20640 is 12cm lower.

The recorded summit point is rock 1m S of cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.

Which hill this one belongs to

Cefn Cul is not counted as an independent hill in its own right. In prominence terms it belongs to Fan Brycheiniog - Twr y Fan Foel (803 m) — the nearest Marilyn you can reach from this summit without first dropping below its key col, 462 m.

Grouping is by prominence alone: a summit belongs to the nearest higher Marilyn it connects to without a deeper intervening col. Over a large massif that can gather hills no one would walk in a single day, and which few would describe as parts of the same mountain — it is a measure of independence, not a suggested route.
