About Ben Lomond

Ben Lomond, Beinn Laomainn or beacon mountain, rises from the eastern shore of Loch Lomond and is the most southerly Munro. It sits within both the Ben Lomond National Memorial Park and the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, and is owned by the National Trust for Scotland.

Its closeness to Glasgow and central Scotland, combined with a straightforward ascent from Rowardennan, has made it one of the busiest Munros: something like 30,000 people reach the top each year. The West Highland Way passes along its western foot beside the loch.

In clear weather the mountain can be picked out from higher ground in Glasgow and across Strathclyde, and its summit is visible from Ben Nevis more than 60 kilometres away. Its standing has left namesakes scattered through the former British colonies, from Australia and New Zealand to Jamaica and the United States.
