About An Stuc

The Gaelic name means simply "the peak", and An Stuc's cone-like profile on the main ridge of the Ben Lawers range north of Loch Tay bears it out. Its southern and eastern slopes lie inside the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve, owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland.

It has only counted as a separate Munro since 1997, having been treated before that as a subsidiary top of the Lawers group, which is why it is usually walked with its neighbours rather than on its own. A second, much lower An Stuc stands in Assynt at the head of Glen Oykel.

The recorded summit point is large rock 25m NE of cairn. That distinction matters on broad or flat tops, where the obvious cairn is not always the true high point.
